Together with the Utah Population and Environment Coalition the SLC Film Center is happy to raise awareness of World Population Day with POPULATION: A GROWING CONCERN. Within the next 50 years, world population is projected to grow by 50% and the greater Wasatch Front by 150%. Isn't it time to take note?
At the present rate of growth; over 80 million a year, the world adds a New York City every month, a Germany every year and a Europe each decade. (this data from the Population Reference Bureau. "2003 World Population Data Sheet." Washington, DC: PRB, 2002.)
What is the Wasatch Front's carrying capacity? Utah Population and Environment Coalition would like to invite you to look at the issues surrounding our future in Utah. UPEC and the SLC Film Center will be presenting two events dealing with global and local population issues.
On Sunday at 2 p.m. come see the film SIX BILLION AND BEYOND produced by Linda Harrar Productions and the Filmmakers Collaborative at the City Library auditorium. This film focuses on economic and environmental problems related to the world’s population. The challenge of a burgeoning world population is how to provide for the growing needs of people while safeguarding biological diversity and minimizing environmental degradation.
Isn't this a growing concern all of us should learn more about?
