Pamela Perlich, Ph.D., a Senior Research Economist in the Bureau of Economic and Business Research at the University of Utah, will be at Westminster College and focus on Utah’s population, which has historically grown more rapidly than the nation in general. Utah has long had the highest fertility rates and household sizes. More recently, economic conditions have brought international immigrants to the state in record numbers, many of whom have even higher fertility rates and larger household sizes than native Utahns. If these trends continue, by 2050 the Utah population could more than double and will be much more culturally and ethnically diverse. A short film will open this program.
At the end of the program, Utah Population and Environment Coalition's Annual Awards will be presented. Duane Cardall and KSL News will be honored for their forthright commentary and reporting on the population issues that will affect the future of the Wasatch Front. Pamela Perlich will be recognized for her outstanding research on the changing demography of our dynamic state and region.
Isn't this a growing concern all of us should learn more about?
